Personal History
Dr. Gallastegui was born in Peru. He received his medical degree with honors from the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru.

Dr. Gallastegui completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami Hospitals in Miami. He subsequently completed a fellowship in cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology at the University of Illinois in Chicago under the leadership of Dr. Kenneth Rosen, one of the pioneers in the field of cardiac electrophysiology (treatment of arrhythymias).

Upon completion of his fellowship he remained at the University of Illinois-Chicago as Assistant Director of Electrophysiology. During his tenure at the University, he was principal investigator in several clinical research studies on cardiac arrhythmias, published in several peer review journals and made presentations at national and international scientific meetings.

Dr. Gallastegui joined Clearwater Cardiovascular Consultants in 1988 as the first electrophysiologist on the west coast of Florida. He started the electrophysiology program at Morton Plant Hospital and was the first to implement several new techniques for the care of patients with cardiac arrhythmias in our area. Dr. Gallastegui holds the position of Director of the Electrophysiology and Arrhythmia Program at Morton Plant Hospital and he is also Chairman of our Research Steering Committee at CCC.

Dr. Gallastegui is board certified in cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and a member of the Heart Rhythm Society and the American Heart Association, and an Affiliate Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida College of Medicine.

Dr. Gallastegui is available to see patients at the Clearwater and Bardmoor offices.
